Yes, We Can

Add Bible Scripture to your artwork. That is the main message of Worldwide Evangelism Christian Artist Network (WeCAN). They admonish every Christian visual artist worldwide to donate art to various organization, charities and entities ( such as orphanages, hospitals and care homes). By adding Bible Scripture to each peice of art donated, it becomes a tool for evangelism to encourage, enlighten and inspire those receiving it.

Basically, you can add Bible Scripture to your canvas, the frames around the images, the base of sculpture or include it mixed media peices. Visit the website to see how God has already used  the talents of visual artists to make impact in the lives of children using scripture in artwork. This is a great way begin or develop an art ministry. Its a wonderful idea for you to do on your own or with a group of your fellow artists.

The Foundation For Hospital Art

is an organization which is dedicated to involving patients and volunteers worldwide (in 179 countries) to create calming, beautiful artwork to be donated to hospitals to help soften the sometimes stressful hospital experience.

They welcome our love and support in their mission of compassion through art.

They believe that the traditional hospital setting: exemplified by white, sterile walls and ceilings. are often colorless, lifeless, and uninviting.

So, they have come up with PaintFests. PaintFests are joyful group gatherings to paint a pre-drawn multiple canvas art work. It enables everyone to participate and all you need is a heart to make beautiful things happen. Check them out at the link above.

There is a wonderful ministry which was started by Tom’s Shoes.  Their commitment is to match every pair of shoes purchased with a donation to a child in need. Our church did this at Christmas.

Basically everyone who participated purchased a pair of the white canvas shoes and painted or designed them. The purchased shoes were then donated to needy children, and the bonus was that Tom’s shoes matched our donation! This is a great ministry for churches, local Christian groups, art groups or anyone who has a heart for the needy.

You can design the shoes in any way you choose. Let your creativity flow, then donate the shoes to shelters, orphanages or if your church is going on a missions trip send a few pairs with them so they can donate them to needy children in other countries. This is an awesome idea for visual art ministry and better yet a great way for artists to help in sharing the gospel.

Being an artist and being a Christian is one of the greatest joys of my life. I love to  paint, draw, look at the beauty of God’s magnificent creation in new and fantastic ways. Isn’t it amazing how God gives each person exactly what they need in the measure of talent, endurance, wisdom and heart that they need to not only fulfill His will for their lives but to give them a life that is wonderful, full and joyous beyond imagination.

Take Stephen Hawkins for an example, he developed a degenarative disease at an early age which subsequently lead to his current wheel-chair bound, paraplegic state. But before he was born God gave him and incredible mind, one he has used to think beyond the boundaries of the everyday and even beyond the realm of well bodied scientists, to contemplate, understand and verbalize incredibly complex and thought provoking astorphysical theories. God gave him that mind and he has made a good use of his life with the mind God gave him.

Dennis Swanberg a Christian comedian once witnessed an incident at a church in which a man’s legs fell partially through the ceiling during a service. His discription of the incident from his point of few left me rolling on the floor with laughter. God gave Dennis the ability to see things in very humorous ways that those of us without that talent would never contemplate.

It is just such a wonderful God we serve who instills in each of us as whether, painter, illustrator, photographer, muralist or sculptor the talent, drive, creativity and spirit we need to weild our craft. We serve an amazing God.
